Remember you have to change the carrier on a D30 when you go to a 4:10 to replace 3:55 or 3:73 gears.

well, ha, changed my mind again. I got 4.56 gears for the HP30, new carrier, and master install kit. A guy I know is going to do both my axles for some cash, but it will be MUCH cheaper than taking it to a shop. I should get the axle back in a week or so, then ill replace the Ujoints, and the bushings, and it will be ready for paint.
For the 8.8, I will be buying 4.56 gears, install kit, and new drive and coast bearings. Also need to pick up new breaks, i believe the rotors are ok. Should have both axles in by the end of feb.

while you have the axles off and all, you should look into heavy duty diff. covers right away.

How do you tell a HP dana 30 from a Lp? I currently have an 01, like yours, and have the same lp dana 30.

You can also get one of the Superior Super 8.8 upgrade packages with stronger axle shafts, lockers and such and no need to run spacers at that point from what I have read. Plus you get a nice strong axle.
