Why not? Isn't a Wrangler about 500 lbs heavier than an XJ? It's all about the power-to-weight ratio.

wrangler has seen so much crap that, there's no saying what a real wrangler motor is. i mean generally from CJ on they all are about the same on the outside. however, XJ is unique to its 4.0. anything other than the good ol' I6 is just not right in an XJ. it's unethical . oh and i think there's one with a 4 banger somewhere out there

see money is also my problem. since i am still in high school i dont have alot of money for what i want to do to it. ive been given the "ok" by my parents to do these things but what i want to do costs alot. ive totaled between the dynomax cat back exhaust, cragar 398 soft 8 chrome rims, rustys 3in spring lift to be around $810 without shipping. plus this is my daily driver and i can only do so much to it. basically what i want to do with it is make it look and sound good and if i want to go through some mud holes or plowed fields i want to know that i have all the power i need to make it through without getting stuck.

thanks for all your input on this subject and if you have any more advice keep it coming.
