Default performance chips, exhausts, rims and lifts

i just bought a 1998 jeep cherokee limited a few months back and i have a few questions as to tune ups and better performance.

first thing, if i were to get a performance chip what kind would be the best for it?

Second, what kind of exhaust would go best with the cherokee?

third, i am looking at cragar 398 soft 8 chrome rims, 15x7. any objections to that rim?

finally, i want to get a lift for it but i dont know what kind and height? need i remind people that i have new P235/75-R15 bfg all terrains

your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Cragars are one of the most popular rims for the Cherokees. I have those on mine currently, and they look great. Make sure to purchase the center caps for them, or mod them to fit your Jeep center caps.

Here's some performance info from jpmagazine as to what works and what doesn't. They use a dyno (not a butt dyno) to analyze any performance gains (losses).

there's a handy search function on this site which I think would help answer your questions... there's a TON of information on this site, you just gotta find it. Im not trying to be rude or anything I just see that your new, welcome to CF, and the search function is your friend. There's tons of write ups on the chips, exhaust and lift.

Don't bother with the performance chip. It's just a gimmick. The only reason is feels more powerful is because you spend your hard earned money on it. As for exhaust, lots of people use the APN header from ineedparts.com because it's stronger than stock and is lifetime warrantied. Also, it is cheaper than anything else on the market http://www.ineedparts.com/auto-parts...-manifold.html . After that, you could go with a Dynomax catback system which is on sale at Summit. And for the lift, I would just go 2" so it doesn't look odd with the 235s. Good luck with your Jeep and be sure to post some pics after the lift.

That looks like a good kit that comes with everything you need. It has full leaf packs which are 10 times better than Add a Leaf and will last much longer. The cat back system at Summit has a $75 rebate right now, so I'd hop on that. Here's a link for the rebate http://www.summitracing.com/promos.aspx?RS=100 This is the kit for an XJ offered by Dynomax http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17340/ and with the $75 rebate would only cost around $70 plus shipping.

the possibilties are endless with these jeeps, which is why I like them so much. There are so many companies that make aftermarket parts for these. I too am going with the APN header. As for the exhaust there are so many things you can do to it. What I choose to do with mine was replace the whole exhaust from the bottom of the header. I went with a slightly larger pipe diameter, hi-flow cat and flowmaster muffler. And as stated above performance chips are just a lot of hype and cash, I've not heard one good thing about them.
I found all the information on the things I could do to my jeep from this site and NAXJA. The amount of info will make your head spin but its good stuff. Def post some pics of ur rig, good times.

i just put on a flowmaster super 40 and it sounds amazing so for exhaust i highly recommend going that route.

i have Hypertech. I can't say that i absolutely love it, but it's doing slight bit of something. it keeps the torque curve more stable, but only if you're giving a lot of gas. I drive like a grandma so, i don't get to see too much of a benefit of it. I currently have nearly every bolt on imaginable for a cherokee and i get between 21-24 mpg on the highway. if you want i can do a complete writeup of all i have and how each piece made a difference.

I've heard you can bolt on everything that companies make for an xj engine but in the end you still have a inline 6. Maybe you've gained a few hp at the wheels but not enough to justify all the $$$$. What I hear people say is if you want noticeable power is to just drop in a v8, or stroke it, but thats a whole other debate. Its funny, even knowing this I still keep buying bolt on parts and small things like that. I guess I dont have a $1000 to drop into an engine so $100 here and $200 there doesnt sound to bad.

i wouldn't put no v8 in an xj... if it was a wrangler, maybe. i'd much rather stroke the i6.
