Default Penetrating oils

Thought this might be helpful. Been using PB for years and thought it was the best stuff out there. This test says otherwise.

Machinist's Workshop Mag (tm)recently published some information on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. the magazine reports they tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts.
They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist.

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants
with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from
a "scientifically rusted" environment.

*Penetrating oil .......... Average load*
None ........................... 516 pounds
WD-40 ..................... ... 238 pounds
PB Blaster .................... 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ............... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil .................... 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix...............53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic
transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better
than any commercial product in this one particular test.

Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use
it with equally good results.

Note also that "Liquid Wrench is almost as good as "Kroil" for
about 20% of the price.

So what do you guys store the 50-50 mix in. I imagine it would destroy a conventional spray bottle.

I've used Kroil for years because it works, unlike PB Blaster and other so-called penetrating oils.

Now, because of the expense of Kroil, I make my own brew. I use Ultra-Pure Paraffin Lamp Oil with a tad of ATF added. It penetrates just as fast as Kroil and the ATF leaves a oily film behind as a lubricant. Where it's neccessary to squirt a penatrant into a confined area I still use the Kroil in an aerosol can. I apply my Paraffin Lamp Oil mix with an eyedropper; however, I have put the lamp oil mix in an old style oil squirt can and used it to dispense the mix into confined areas.

Paraffin oil is 99% liquid wax, and has a flash point of around 207*F, and a melting point of 32*F (becomes waxy).

I tried that Acetone mix once and didn't care for it. The Acetone stunk and it evaporated too quickly.
