Default pcm interchangeability

My voltage regulator in my pcm/ecm fried out and I need a new pcm. I found one at the u pull it close to me for cheap. My question is as long as it's from the same year engine and set for an auto tyranny it should be good right? My ecm number was 56041534 ae. But the letters start at aa and go to ah. What interchanges with mine if anything? Thanks in advance.

IIRC the small letters are revisions to the program, as long as the numbers match it should work.

There's also the security and non to match up..

That's what I was thinking, wasn't sure if I was correct or not. What was the last part you were talking about? It confused me.

Factory alarm..

If you have one you need a PCM that was programed for one. It was in addition to your mention of Year/engine/trans for compatibility issues.

You need a part number 56041248 PCM ('96, 4.0, Manual Trans).'98 won't work.

Part number 56041248 has been superseded by pat number 4886958 if you get one from the dealer, or are searching on ebay.
