My 91 just died out of nowhere on the road. The fuel pump stopped running and upon further investigation i found out I'm also not getting any voltage to my spark plugs. It's not the relays and both the starter and the a/c fan still kicks on. Could it be the engine control module? Or what could be the link between the two? On a side note we had record rain here in AZ last week and that's when it started acting up.

So, When it died did it just shut off without any warning like you turned it off with the key? If so I would check out your coil and your CPS. Check out Cruisers tips it will tell you on how test you cps. But the test isn't always 100% sometimes it can show good ans still be bad. Also make sure that your battery is fully charged and that all of your grounding points are clean and shinny.

Reiterating what was already said - CPS and grounds. If you've already done a ground refresh - look at CPS. If you haven't done a ground refresh....no further questions needed be asked at this point.
CPS will completely kill spark and fuel, otherwise I would say possible fuel pump (which are easy to do on these renixes so there's that) - but ya....CPS...

90 was the last year the AC Voltage test works on the two wire Renix CPS. I think there IS a resistance check that might tell you if yours is bad, (but not guarantee it's good)
So you are sure you lost spark as well as fuel pressure. CPS could do that. In your shoes I suppose I'd get the codes read. Also I'd check the plug connector to the CPS.
Here is the "Key Trick", might work for you. >
OBD1 Models: 1991-1995
1) Start engine (if possible). Move transmission shift lever
through all positions, ending in Park. Turn A/C switch on and then off
(if equipped).
2) Turn engine off. Without starting engine again, turn
ignition on, off, on, off and on within 5 seconds. Record 2-digit
fault codes as displayed by flashing MIL.
3) For example, fault code 23 is displayed as flash, flash,
4-second pause, flash, flash, flash. After a slightly longer pause,
other codes stored are displayed in numerical order. When MIL begins
to flash fault codes, it cannot be stopped. Start over if count is
lost. Code 55 indicates end of fault code display.

The first thing I always ask when someone says that they just installed a new cps is, Where did you get it from? After market one are garbage and rarely work right out of the box. If they do they have a very short life span. If it is a aftermarket one I would suggest getting an OEM one and go from there.

The Duralast from Auto Zone isn't an OEM part it is an aftermarket part. Also known as an OEM replacement part. All of Auto Zone parts are aftermarket parts. OEM parts come from the dealer. You can also order one from RockAuto Or any other place that carries OEM (Chrysler/Jeep) parts.

Ya next step is fuses and relays.
As much as I hate to believe certain parts are commonly faulty from stock, I have heard it happening quite a lot with these CPS's, that they absolutely NEED to be actual brand new OEM, not duralast crap, junkyard grabs, etc. Apparently they are very picky.
