Patching an XJ??
I need to patch the holes behind my rear tires, from the trimming. I have seen some adhesives in auto parts stores for body work. I was thinking of trimming out some sheet metal and (gluing) it in! Has anybody used this method? If there is an adhesive I could use, I would prefer that over welding it. Sounds a little easier. If I have to weld it, I will. Thanks for any input!!
Weld it bro, trust me, it will be better in the end. If you have some sheet metal pieces then it shouldn't take more than an hour or so. They make some steel epoxy or something you might could try, but I like welding.
This is the best pic I have of the area. I can get a better one tomorrow. It was already done. This XJ belonged to a good friend of mine, who thought he wanted a K5!! Now he has a ZJ, they all come back!!
I used to have a K5... It had a big V8 and wouldn't go around anything. It would just pummel through stuff and destroy pretty much anything in its path. As much as I hated tearing places up (my own property) it was the only way to get it through stuff.
That being said, I like my XJ a *little* bit better.

It is not going to be a big deal either way. I just wanted some input on the patch job. Wow, my Jeep is STILL dirty, and I just washed after the last outting! I don't think it will comprimise the unibody in any way. Thanks for the help guys!! PEACE OUT!!

Clean it up prime it with some POR15 and plate it if you want to protect it further. Remember when welding sheet metal little baby stepps farther apart until you have gone around it several times filling the voids a little at a time. Just keeps your metal warpage to a minimum.
Blue is right. Tack it slowly around the perimeter and LET IT COOL before making another weld. If you have a blower attachment on an air hose use that, it will cool the steel quickly. Don't want to warp anything.

Wow, they did the 'cut' and forgot the 'fold' part... It's probably not going to be fun but I would certainly suggest welding it in. Anything adhesive is not going to last long in that location...
Most people that make that modification don't actually cut there. They usually make a certain few cuts on the back and fold the left-over under to cover the hole that you have there in the pictures.
Good luck.
