Question Part removal question

I feel dumber than hell for having to ask this question, but how do you remove the *** from the headlight switch on a 98 XJ sport? I can't get it off, and I can't see a clip or anything to release it.
Thanks

Greg

There is a small release tab on the switch housing behind the dash. Push it and pull the ****, it'll come all the way out.

Ok thank you, I'll give that a try. Is it easy to see looking up from under the dash?

I can't seem to get it disconnected. Is that tab to push a silver tab that is between the ***, and the front of the plastic housing?

Cool, that really helps. I'm so tired, I just realized I was spelling **** wrong. LOL! Its been a long day, and it seems that the newer jeep (98 Sport) I thought was a deal may not be as good as my 92 Laredo. Looks like electrical gremlins to trouble shoot, and new spider gears, or maybe a new rear end. Thanks for all your help. I'll try and document things and have a write up for trouble shooting an electric lock problem at the tail gate, along with a couple of other wiring problems.

I got the light switch apart this morning, and wow was it ever stiff to pull out of its hole. Now I am working on figuring out why the steering wheel does not lock when the key is off, and in park. Also figured out that the blinker/combo switch is broken, and that is why I the blinker was often hard to turn on, and would not cancel once I finished my turn.
Thanks for all the help with removing the **** from the switch.

It can be a real puzzle until you know the trick. Once you do it a couple of times, you get to where you can do it in seconds.

I found this useful information on this web page tonight, Lets see if this adjustment fixes my problem.http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...djustments.htm

AUTOMATIC SHIFTER'S PARK LOCK CABLE ADJUSTMENT
  1. Shift transmission into Park.
  2. Turn ignition switch to Lock position.
  3. Remove shift lever bezel and console screws. Raise bezel and console for access to cable.
  4. Pull cable lock button up to release cable (Fig. 48).
  5. Pull cable forward. Then release cable and press cable lock button down until it snaps in place.
  6. Check adjustment as follows: Fig. 47 Shift Cable Adjustment :
    • (a) Check movement of release shift handle button (floor shift) or release lever (column shift). You should not be able to press button inward or move column lever.
    • (b) Turn ignition switch to On position.
    • (c) Press floor shift lever release button or move column lever. Then shift into Neutral. If cable adjustment is correct, ignition switch can not be turned to Lock position. Perform same check with transmission in D range.
  7. Move shift lever back to Park and check ignition switch operation. You should be able to turn switch to Lock position and shift lever release button/lever should not move.

Show of hands... Who knew that on a late 90s Cherokee, that you have to turn the steering wheel left or right to an upside down position to get it to lock correctly when you turn off the key? LOL! Not me, but I am glad I know now, and that no parts had to be purchased/replaced.
