Default Painting my jeep

I just got some money to put towards some paint for my jeep I was wondering if anyone on here has painted there jeep themselves also. I've taken auto body classes so I know some stuff but I'm wondering what you would recomment about singe or double stage paint since i'm going to be off roading and which would handle the mudd better?

I say 2 stage is always more durable and will be able to handle more rocks and sticks. If you want to keep it looking nice all the time and not spend a ton of money you might want to think about a roll-on job. There are a few write-ups on here where people had great results and its CHEAP! You would also be able to refinish damaged paint more frequently due to the very low cost.

I just bought my jeep yesterday and plan to paint it as well...

I've painted a lot of automotive finishes in my life on various panels, parts etc.. But I've only painted 2 cars for show, one was a vw bus..

I've used both single stage and two stage paints, ppg and the omni version, also used a bunch of SW gemini series..

IMO two stage is easier to work with but costs gobs more, if you plan to actually use your jeep I'd suggest the lesser of the two and use single stage paint...

I've made single stage look like glass after color sanding, really couldn't tell the difference and appeared to have a clear coat...

I'm no expert by any means but will say, its all in the prep.. If you're not going to block out your jeep don't bother with two stage...

happy trails,

Are you saying 50/50 Rustoleum paint and mineral spirits and roll it on?

I'm a need a paint job when I finish repairs on my 91, itll have 4 different colors on it. But I can't find much info on the whole roll on paint job deal. Searched but just got a bunch of "roll call" threads.

From what I have read though. It seems to need A LOT of wet sanding between coats? Doesn't sound appealing.

Urethane clear coat is the most durable, not cheapest.
I just painted a hood by base/clear first time. I am pretty happy with results.
Problem is dust, so if you paint, consider less wind and some cover.

Cool. Too bad it won't let me watch it on my phone. I guess I'll wait.

7 rattles cans of Krylon camo tan and 4 cans of flat matte clear coat. Holds up great. and cost me about $75.00.

The total job took about a day. Lightly sanded the original paint. with wet dry paper. painted first coat. waited about 5 hrs and did a real quick wet sand and did second coat. Next morning did a light wet sand again and cleared it. Drove it that night. Easy touch up after a day of crawling. I carry a can of paint with me. All the bumppers and armor are the walmart sprayon bed liner. I also Carry a can. I didnt see the point of a $$$ paint job. I knew i would trash it. And i have seen Mayco paint jobs not look as good. Just remember to spray the jeep in the same direction. Dont switch from side to side and start up and down. It wont look right. You can tell when its dry.
