Try wet sanding first with 1000 and buff it with a compound that cuts real good. it may make look brand new without painting it. Thats just the clearcoat peeling. if you wanna wait I'm gonna do a writeup this weekend on mine.

i've painted my xj after i read the mopar page. all but polish with wax, anyways. it's lasted me about 4 years so far with no need to repaint yet.

it's all in the prep. if you really don't know what you're doing, you won't get a very nice job. it takes a whole lot of patience and lots of time.
i did mine over the course of a week. everyday.

to do yours, i'd start off with an orbital sander with 120 grit to get the clear coat off and start to remove the top coat. if you need any filler or glazing puddy, you'll want to use a rougher grit, something like 100 for the area to fill so it has something to stick to. also featheredge is important.

lol I sand mine every 3 years and get a 250 dollar macco job.. It always looks shinny for a year.
Keeps it from rusting anyways.

X2 , YEAH WHAT HE SAID, I'D USE A D.A. ( DUAL ACTION ) SANDER IF AVAILABLE, OVER AN ORBITAL THOUGH. IN MY EXPERIENCE IT GIVES A BIT MORE BITE.

What color of paint are you planning to put on your jeep?
Just be sure that you'll smoothly sand it before applying the paint to get rid of paint flaws...

Um, well, imo after spending a majority of your time doing bodywork i think its kinda dumb " rolling on rustoleum " especially like that one guy doing it on a vette! It looked ok in the pics but i'm sure its less than impressive in person. Do it right if you want a nice paint job or if your just looking to get some color on your jeep ( cuz its gonna get beat up on the trails ) save yourself a bunch of trouble and just go to maaco. Again just my .02 and i dont wanna get anyone po'd

I went over my entire Jeep with #180 sandpaper and sprayed it with raptor liner. They offer a tintable liner so you can mix whatever color you want. I painted mine Sunburst Orange Pearl. It turned out great and you don't have to sand everything down so smooth. The kit comes with 4L of liner and 1L of hardener. Just mix the hardener, paint, and liner, shake it up and spray. The gun is included all for 120$. Its a great DIY paintjob. I done it in my backyard. Especially on a trail rig, or DD you can't scratch this stuff. You wont get the glossy look but ITS A JEEP!!!

Sorry to steal the thread but has anybody ever tried to put bed liner on lower part of jeep where it usally rust first? Like at the bottom panels and at the door handle area?
