Default Painting exhaust manifold?

I removed my exhaust manifold, to check for cracks, and sure enough there was a crack. I took it to my dad's work, and he had a friend weld it. My dad brought it back to me and was like "Oh, he painted it too". I asked him if it was high temp paint, but of course it wasn't. Should i remove the paint before I put it back on my Jeep? I'm not sure if it would, but i really don't want it to catch on fire or anything like that...don't know what to do? Any help is appreciated!

If it was me I'd get all the paint I could off. Other wise its gonna STINK LIKE CRAZY!!! And smoke a lot! The fire risk I don't know about but but I'm sure it could be a possibility.

Clean it off it will be stink so bad, plus it may not catch fire but it will smoke like crazy.

Start it, let it run a few seconds and turn it off. Do this a few times before driving it. If it's regular paint, it should burn off with a few heat cycles. It could be hi-temp manifold/header paint, VHT or something similar. Got a fire extinguisher handy?

If it's not heat paint you have to take it off, no way around it. I have often taken headers into gravestone makers facilities. They have sandblast equipment and can do quick for cash. Great surface prep. Use a high heat VHT brand, have also used brands Krylon high heat and Tremcald flat black stove paint.

Yea, i will definitely be removing it, probably with a torch, before i put it back on. I don't care if it's painted or not, it's just an exhaust manifold. Thank for all the help guys!

Ok, so I took a propane torch to it last night. Went over the entire thing, and it didn't smoke at all. No funny smells, nothing like that. Even held the flame directly on the same spot for a good minute or so. So either he did use high temp paint, or it was treated with something?
