i am going to put a new door on my cherokee.i can not find a black door anywhere.how much shouls a paint shop charge to paint it black to match my jeep?

 

if its just the door and you dont do anything but hang door and they do the rest... 200 bucks.. + if you sand door before you put on... and tape everything off.. remove all the stuf to make it were they basickly just have to inspect it.. tack it.. and shoot it... 100 bucks.....

 

200 bucks even seems pricey to me.(i'm a cheap *****)lol .maybe i'll have a differnt color door on my jeep from now on....

i was thinking that too.a bad paint job is better than mismatch paint i guess....

 

It is possible to do a good spray can job

 

2 cans at a time...practice on something.. but it can be done to look like it was done by a pro...prep is the key to... has to be prepred right...

 

The only problem with a rattlecan job is that it makes it much harder to respray right later because you can't spray automotive paint over spraypaint. Even good spraypaint.

Professional automotive paint will cause spraypaint to lift. If you ever decide to get it painted right, you'll have to remove all of the spraypaint first.

I don't have a source to cite, but there was a thread going on another automotive forum where someone rattlecanned a hood with like 8-9 different common types of spraypaint, then shot professional paint over it. In all cases, the spraypaint bubbles up and makes a mess.

Not saying you can't get good results out of a can because I've seen what's possible. Just wanted to give you all the info.

Now you can go get a small can of automotive paint. a cheap gun and shoot it..have any friends with a paint gun and air ?

 

is it a stock black? theres an automotive paint store online and some local automotive paint shops that will custom make spray paint to match stock colors. its like 14 bucks a can. im gonna get about 10 cans myself and do my whole jeep once i figure out what color i want. just google custom spray paint.

My buddy rolled his Suburban on it's side last year and he needed to get a new door. He found a gray door and his Subruban was red. We sanded it down so there was no more clear coat. Primed it with self etching primer. After that, we got some Duplicolor red that matched to his paint code and painted the entire door with 4 cans of it. When everything was covered nicely we lightly wet sanded it and put on 2 cans worth of clear coat. It looked so good and matched so perfect, his mom didn't even notice. She found out recently and wasn't even mad because he pulled it off so good.

 

thats what i was thinking of with the paint at the auto parts store.i'm not sure if is factory paint the PO said it was newer paint.i am going to get a small can and see how good it matchs before i spray it...

 

i know that with Rustoleum spray paint, it will do that with any paint other than another Rostoleum brand product. it's some adverse reaction with the chemicals used in the paint. i used to remember what the chemical was that caused this, but i haven't used Rustoleum in years, so i can't remember what it was... wish i could remember. maybe i shouldn't drink so much, lol
