P0705 NSS Error: Reverse works, no starting issues.
So I took apart the interior on my xj (having to yank up on my gear selector to get the handle off)
I do some interior work and 4 days later I'm ready to drive it. I drive around for about 2 hours and get the P0705 check engine light (Neutral Safety Switch).
I'm having zero issues starting it, and my reverse lights come on.. so should I
1) Tighten it
2) Loosen, adjust, retighten
EDIT: Check the harness in the engine compartment
last resort
3) Take it off and clean it
As I said, I'm not having any issues just the check engine light which I've already cleared once and it turned on again.
Let me know!

Still most likely an issue of some sort with the NSS. You can have an issue that doesn't involve starting or backup lights. I would try "refurbishing" it first. Here are some links.

Thanks for the help guys, I had read all the links on how to remove and clean them, but they never talked about how you could get the check engine light without having any of the symptoms.
I'll fiddle with it later and see what that'll do, I just don't wanna mess it up worse, you know? Because it's not really broken or giving me faults.

The NSS controls more than starting in park and backup lights. It also has control over certain transmission functions. This may result in an issue that you might not have sensed (yet).
The problem with not addressing it is that you have a check engine light. If you get another issue, figuring it all out with an existing issue makes it more difficult.
I'd chase it. I recommend chasing EVERY check engine light.

Got the code again, messed around with the harness.. I really don't wanna take it off. It's a PITA to not break. (especially b/c mine will be all corroded from salt)

You are going to continue to have the light/code until you either refurbish or replace.
So live with it or chase it. Your choice.
If you soak the fasteners with penetrating oil (not WD-40) a couple of times a few days before you tackle the project, that helps a lot in getting the NSS removed.
