Just got back from a Florida trip towing my boat and had that code twice on the trip. Did some searching on here and found the TSB. When I bought it new it did not have that shield installed by the injectors. It had a recall and that shield, which I think was to stop leafs from collecting and catching fire on the manifold was installed. Looking it over today it seems like that shield also holds the heat in and may direct hot air right to that number 3 injector. Any thoughts on this? I removed the shield since it didn't come new with one and never had trouble with "leaf" build up.

The 2000 and 2001 are way more susceptible to "heat soak", than other years. This is almost assuredly what is going on with yours.
And when you have heat soak, it often leads to a cylinder #3 misfire.
Wrapping that injector (either via the TSB from Jeep or some other technique) can help a bit, but often makes no difference.
The two main fixes for this are cutting louvers into the hood, installing a timer on the e-fan, which keeps it on for a while after you turn the ignition off, effectively reducing engine bay temperatures. Or BOTH louvers and e-fan timers.
I have also seen a few more problems with Bosch spark plugs than NGKs, which is what I recommend and use on the distributorless coil pack ignition that you have on your 01. If you are running Bosch, I'd get some NGKs in there and see if it helps. Gapped to .035

Thanks for the tips. I actually have Champions in it now,but will change them when I do this again. In my 10 years of ownership this is the 1st time it has happened, but than again this is the 1st time it had to work this hard in that heat and humidity. When I figured out what was going on,ie only happening when refueling or stopping at a rest area, I just left it running. Since you say it happens more to the 2000's and '01's are the '00's the 1st year of the cats on the manifolds? Thanks again.
