Overheating problems...
I have a 98 XJ and I just got done replacing the radiator, thermostat, clutch fan and a radiator cap, the only thing i havent replaced is the water pump which was done in 2007 i just saw the records and it was a napa water pump...my issue is it climbs up to the line above 210 degrees, and i dont know if it is because of the water pump or the radiator i have is to small or what is going on...but i want to figure out why it keeps wanting to climb that high granted it has been 90 degrees like almost every day i still dont think it should be going over 210 degrees at all...also radiator is a murray radiator from orileys, and it has a 195 degree thermostat in it and just has a regular 16 pound radiator cap

That makes sense that it needs regearing but it doesnt explain anything when i just let it run idling it shouldnt get up to over 210 degrees, and it is a 98 and i just changed my coolant when i did all the thermostat radiator and radiator cap and clutch fan less then 50 miles ago

You have a fan shroud on your mech fan?
So the max temp you see is the line above 210? What's lowest temp you see after you feel the motor's at it's op temp?

Try burbing the system.
Take the radiator cap off
Start the engine and turn on the heater and let it idle for a couple minutes
Allow the thermostat to open and the radiator to burp
Put the cap back on when it starts over flowing
Make sure you have a good overflow tank and hose and plenty of fluid in there. Otherwise you will suck in air and overheat.
Hope that helps.

I have already burped all the air out im pretty sure, and it will run at 210 for like 10 minutes and then it will climb some more...i just dont really understand why it is still over heating after all the things i did...it will run hot until it cools off to around 75 and then i can run it for as long as i want with out it wanting to over heat...and i have the fan guard on, i might be running more then 50 percent antifreeze if that will make a difference

Is it boiling over? Does the needle ever go to the red?
If not, it isnt overheating. Stock aux fans dont come on until around 217*-220*.
220* is pretty common for an xj on a 90+ degree day.
Does it cool down when the aux fan comes on?

Check the temp with something besides the dash gage.
On mine, the dash gage will read about 205. Using a temp gun at the back of the head it reads 180ish and at the thermostat housing in the 190s.
Factory gages are not accurate and only good as a reference. ( the needle points at this line when operating at normal temp and below it's cool and above is hotter than normal) Does not reflect an accurate temp or increase in temp.

Yeah that is my next mission I will steal a temp gun from work and go drive it and check it...and it doesn't go to the red anymore, it just goes to I think it is 230 on the gauge and I am running probably 75 percent antifreeze maybe a little more cuz I grabbed the wrong antifreeze and I was just dumping in concentrate instead of the mixed can I had...but the fan does come on but it doesn't really cool down much...I'll check and see if my gauge is just off or not

Ok, I dont even need a temp gun to tell its over heating...if i run it when it is cooler then 70 degrees i can run it for an hour and it doesnt even hit 210 degrees its just when its warmer out then it starts to climb, what can cause it to heat up to 230 degrees??? just when it is warmer then 70, it has a brand new radiator, thermostat, fan clutch and radiator cap, i am all strung out of ideas...the only thing i didnt replace was the water pump which was done in 2007 which it only has 20,000 miles on the old water pump...
