I have a 88 jeep cherokee and it keeps overheating and idk why. It takes no time for it to over heat, but it doesnt go into my overflow and steam doesnt come out. I replaced the thermostat and water pump and that didnt do anything. I read somewhere that there are 2 types of water pumps for it: reverse water pump and standard water pump. I'v tried both but r exactly the same (even no they have come up reverse and standard). But i am pretty sure its the water pump because when its running, water/coolant isnt gettin to my radiator (radiator and hoses are still cold). It seems like the water pump is not the right one because its not throwing the coolant where it need to go and its just spinning in the coolant but i cant seem to find the right water pump. Any suggestions on this or is there anything im doing wrong or just not doing.

Not sure if you have a bad water pump, if you have a cracked head. You can get a crack in the exhaust and will create an air pocket inside the block and the water pump is just that, a water pump not an air pump. The pump will not push if it is vapor locked. Just one thing out there.

i'm assuming you flushed and back flushed the entire system to include the heater core, if not do that and see if any improvement. how does your oil look? and coolant levels? is the staying the same level for coolant? is your oil look like suds?

like i had posted it really seems like i have the wrong water pump cuz the fluid is not going thru the radiator (im guessing cuz it stays cold and the hoses too). i just cant find the oppisite one anywhere (reverse water pump and standard water pump)

my jeep had this issue, replaced everything cooling system wise, but like i said before the biggest help was flushing the system and back flushing it, i did a few times over a week or two period and always drained my antifreeze and replaced with new after each flushing. hope this helps keep us updated on your progress

you should be able to look at the impeller and figure out which way it needs to turn to pump water those engines are notorious for getting airlocked and needing to be burped
did you read what i posted? or you gan google burping a renix xj cooling system
have you replaced the thermostat and verified correct orientation
