I just know when the rad shop told me they checked the rad, that it was good. He's my best buddy for years and he wouldn't screw me over like that. But I'll be getting a new one for cheap from him (cost) and a fan clutch as well. Thanks for the insight guys, much appreciated. I had an XJ when I was a teenager and can't wait to get back at one.

Cheers.

A free phone call to the rad shop, asking what they did, would be cheaper than buying a rad, even at cost.

Completely agree, but I'm going to baby the heck out of this Jeep. There's certain things I would like to make sure I have in perfect working order and cooling is big for me.

My buddy is selling me two XJ's for $1000 to make one out of. Have to keep it streetable still, but still want to go off road with it. One is a 89 4 door and the other is a 90 2 door. The 4 door is the one with the heating issue. The other one is running fine, just needs the fans fixed (none of the speeds are working). I'm trying to decide which one to keep and what to strip off the other one.
Any specific parts I should steal from one of the jeeps before I scrap it? I cant have 2 in my driveway.

Fans and radiator seem to be the likely culprits here. This is all presuming you have no leaks
