sounds like a coolant system flush is in order. find a competent garage and take it there if ya dont wanna deal with it . also look into a B&M tranny coller.

water is fine. just watch the needle. and use distilled water. tap has minerals and the what not the can leave deposits in your system.

What are the chances my t stat locked up? Garage seems to think that was the case. I put some water in her and started her up, no leaks.

Put at least some coolant in. Pure water will eventually start to corrode things.

Before getting too deep i suggest narrowing down why it overheated. A coolant flush isn't a bad place to start. How old is the water pump? Factory?

Water pump was replaced year before last. Coolant flush will have to be after the long weekend. Game plan is fill her back up with coolant and try again. she's always done good while driving and traffic is flowing good now. Thanks for the quick responses, I'm currently roadside waiting for aaa. Any other precautions you guys recommend?

Just watch the gauge. You shouldn't have to worry about the head cracking. Keep an extra gallon or two of coolant and water. A gallon of distilled is a buck at most grocery stores.

When taking a trip after some problems like this I will uaually take 2 gallons of water in old soda or milk containers until I know WTH is going on.. Just in case I'm puking again I can wait til she's cold--add the water and hopefully get somewhere better than where I was.

Good luck , have a nice weekend.

Thanks guys. Got some coolant in it and it started pouring out of a seam on the passenger side. Unfortunately this means a new radiator and since I have to take it to a shop, an oem one. Not what I wanted, but I'll drink through the pain of spending just as much money on an oem as I would one from radiator barn that's all metal. I guess it was a good day to wear my flask belt buckle. Cheers and have a good weekend!
