Overheating 4.0
Looking for some help with my overheating issue.
I had a newer engine installed in the jeep about a year and a half ago. (have been driving since and no overheating problems until this)About a week ago the hose running from the water pump to the heater valve assembly cracked and leaked coolant everywhere. While taking the hose off I cracked the heater valve assembly, so I replaced both the valve and the hose and refilled the lost coolant.
Immediately after fixing this, the heater didn't work and it overheated. I played with the valve assembly and the heater ***** and got the heater working again. No problems with the heater since.
The overheating has not stopped. It runs at 210 while moving and within 30 seconds of being stopped the temp starts to rise. I do not believe the e-fan has kicked on since I have been watching the temp. Which I know it was working before.
I don't believe the E-fan would make that much of a difference in the cold michigan weather.
Any help will be appreciated!

Have u removed the rad cap, motor COLD, to check coolant level? Have u checked the connector/wires at the t-stat sending unit? Must always have some coolant in the bottle.

1. Check rad overflow bottle, and fill all the way
2. Engine cold, pull off rad cap and fill to top (if low)
3. Start engine with rad cap off (and heater on full blast), and fill rad cap if the coolant level drops (run the engine for a while, until no more coolant drops)
4. Make sure you close everythin up and take her through a warm up drive

I haven't messed the tstat or wires at all, mainly because it does not overheat while driving, just warm idle. I haven't put any coolant in the overflow, but today I was parked on a bit of a decline and was able to get a little bit more in the radiator then capped it. I drove home 2 miles with overflow cap open. It was running 210 by the time I got home, and let it idle for a few minutes and it did not overheat.
Any suggestions on the e-fan? when should it kick on?, should I override it a toggle before summer?

Often overlooked, inexpensive and easy to replace. I'd recommend this.
BTW, the e-fan should come on at approximately 217 farenheit.

No, I don't believe I ran it dry. It didn't take much to top it off again.
I will check into the fan clutch. Thank you all for the help too!
