There is no real way to tell if the rad is clogged. How many miles? New thermostat, if no then I would get one. When does it over heat?

New thermostat, the motor has about 30 miles on and takes about 20 minutes to start overheating.

At idle? Or in motion? Your radiator could look brand new on the outside but be clogged on the inside

1. Be sure the water pump is the correct application. If the "rotation" is incorrect and there are similar applications that have a different rotation, it won't work properly.

2. If water pump is verified, radiator is suspect. And get a new radiator cap while you're at it.

Only a rad shop can tell the internal condition of the XJ rad......by separating the tanks from the core. Rads usually fill/clog from the bottom up, a row at a time. Flushing will seldom remove solid sediment/rust from the rad. Flushing with a hose can appear like water is flowing freely thru the rad and it probably is.....but it's probably only flowing thru the top half of the rad. The XJ rad is small.....1/2 of a XJ rad is realy small.
