Default BAD TPS? Anybody out there?

My 95 xj started stalling on me about a month ago. This led me to perform a basic tuneup (new therm., sparks, spwires, dist., rotor, fuel filter). Problem still occuring!! The engine will run fine and smooth for 30 minutes and then stall out at stops. I tested the iac valve today and it seems fine. could it be bad tps? Any ideas please...

Wouldn't hurt to check the TPS voltage. The outside wires are +5V and ground, center one should put out a voltage between 0.26 and 0.95 at idle, smoothly increasing as you open the throttle, maxing out at no more than 4.4 volts at WOT.

Did you clean the IAC? If it sticks when it warms up you can stall.

Does it start right back up after stalling, or does it need to sit for a while?

Mine started doing this also and then started to not shift. I changed the tps and it runs like new.

I'd start with a thorough IAC and throttle body cleaning first.

Good advice above. Cleaning throttle body, throttle position sensor.

One other possibility for stalling is a marginal battery. And yes, you can have a battery strong enough to start the engine, but marginal enough to create stalling at idle. I've seen it multiple times. Stalling is a very common symptom of a bad battery. Have your battery "load tested". Any parts store will do this for free.

Sorry for the side question: does this need to be done/checked with engine running or key to on position? or something else?

Sorry, I should've included that. Key in the "on" position, engine off.

I had weird idle issues and some shifting issues due to my TPS after I choked my tailpipe out in a bank and stalled the engine. All I did to fix it was reset my ECU. It may be worth a try to do that before you buy a new one.
