I've got a 99 xj that overheats when I take it out.
What can I do to cool this thing, I go out with Toyotas and chev thru the same mid holes and they don't overheat?

Usually lack of cooling system maintenance is what causes overheating on most any 13+ year old vehicle. Neglected 'Yotas and Chevys overheat as well.....don't blame the poor ol' mud hole, blame the previous/current owner.

So what do you mean overheating, Gage or is it spewing fluid.
Start with how your fluid looks, see if you thermastat is opening ay 195 deg
It is a hot system and should be at 210 to 220, Mine has issues with temp sencer and its conection all the time. Good luck
