Hey guys, this might be a dumb thread, but here it goes...
What do you think is the optimal PSI for wheelin' in sand/mud?
I always run 35 psi, just because i'm too lazy to let air out and then pump it back up when i'm done, and she does pretty well (33" Goodyears)
I know that if I ran lower, I'd see better traction in the sand/mud and whatnot.
I feel as if 15-20 PSI is optimal for wheelin, what are your thoughts?

Way too high! Especially in sand! Drop it down to 10 and you'll get much better traction! Then slowly go down from there if you feel the need. If you have a narrow rim like an 8" you could go down to ~8psi safely. If you have the wider 10 inch wide rims I don't think I'd go below 10.
You want a good bulge from the tire, that's what gets you the most traction. Have fun!

i run between 2-5 with my bias 36 iroks on beadlocks
but with my tj's, i would go down to 10-12 on my non beadlock 8 inch steelies
if you're riding in a group on a trail, be courteous and air down, otherwise you will just slow the pack down due to you bumping over every rock and root.

I run my Duratracs right at 30 on road and anywhere from 10-12 when I go wheelin'. Not only do you get more traction but the ride is a lot more smoother since the tires conform to the terrain that you're driving on. Well worth the 5 minutes to air down.

Same thing here, 12 on the trail, and 30 on the street. I dont mind airing down, mostly because at my usual spot, there is a discount leaving so I Just stop and have them air em back up.

It all depends on the terrain, type of tires and size. You have to consider all of the factors and see what pressure give you the best ride and traction. But on the average you can normally run anywhere between 10 and 15psi. and you should be fine.
