Default Opinions on maintenance before off roading.

Ok first off im finally getting into the off roading part. Well this weekend theres a Mud race im entering and i need to do some routine maintence first and had a couple questions.

First off on the diffs would you recommend plain valvoline 80w90 on front and valvoline 75w140 for rear or Im also considering using lucas gear oil in same viscovities.

Also tranny im just draining and refilling with filter change using valvoline dex/merc 3 same on transfer case I will be adding lucas tranny stabilizer stuff, any words of advice on this option or any improvements?

Thanks for the input and yes i know mud racing isnt much for off roading but its a chance to win $$$ cause we dont have real off road compitions in Iowa that i know of.

The rear diff's filler is just a rubber plug, I've seen many of these leak when in deep mud, it gets in the diff and ruins the fluid, you may want to wait till you done with the mudding to change diff fluids. Also 75w-140 is real expensive fluid, i don't think your rear needs that, that is full locker or newer style LSD's. it should be the same 80w-90 front and back.

ok thanks on the info, I was kinda wondering about the mudding, from watching in the past i dont think it does get that deep but just in case i may wait. they use our county fairground tractor pull track for the mud races.

And thanks for the heads up on on the viscocity using plain 80w90 is a heck of a lot cheaper.

I do have the dana 44 front and chrysler 8.25 rear
