Default only stays running in 4-low

Hi i just picked up my first jeep last week its a 96 cherokee with a long travel lift. The previous owner replaced the motor with a reman 4.0 and put a fuel cell/aftermarket fuel pump and regulator. The problem is as soon as you try to take it out of 4-low and put it either in 2 or 4-hi and go to put it in gear it dies. Im sorry if i missed a previous thread and would appreciate any help i can get.
Thanks,
Jeremy

I think you'll have to elaborate a little.

How does it die? Electrical (instant stop), engine chokes out (sputtering stop), or ????

Does it start and run in neutral with the TC in 2H? How about in park with the TC in neutral?

With the discounts from AZ, I picked one up for about $70.00. Don't forget to grab an O2 sensor and some anti-seize too. My sensor was welded in and broke during attempted removal. While you're at it, it'd be a good time to do the hangers since you'll have the pipe loose. Those I found at NAPA.

Geez....it's not like it's a mattress tag

The way I read it, it doesn't sound like he intends to drive it without a cat (which as bad as that would be, would be even worse to talk about here). It sounds like he did a simple diagnostic procedure on a recently obtained vehicle that he's trying to get running.

I think about myself in the same position. Imagine picking up a non-running XJ for free, and finding out it was something as simple as a plugged cat

True, but some people are lazy/ignorant and I didn't want him to be kicked off for something he didn't know about. Kinda like telling someone their tire is low or their taillight is out and needs to be fixed before they drive it too far I'm not tryin to be a turd
