I did this swap in my old 88 and never swapped or replaced any seals. No issues.

looks like i just need 2 drivers side seals and need to pull the carrier our to install them.

i hope i can an axle with one piece shafts at the u-pull when i go, guess i wont concentrate on finding one with 4.10's since it's so easy to just do the swap. it would be a waste to just get the shafts because they charge the same price no matter if you get a shaft, R&P, or complete axle....

The axle housing may not have the seal location machined into it inside the pumpkin. Some of the D30 disconnect housings had it and some did not. The new seal is supposed to go inside the axle housing where the vacuum shift motor is mounted.

Agreed with winston427 Mine did have the seal in the box on the axle tube... When you open it up it'll be on the left side of the tube. And if you do pull out the carrier make note of where all shims were or there will be big trouble...
