97 XJ died on me while driving to work this morning. I have a 90% highway commute and I was doing 75 and it just shut off so I pulled over and it wouldn't start back up... I got a ride and replaced the CPS because I know how these love to go on 4.0's. Didn't fix anything. So I checked the fuel pump and relays, fuses etc. Nothing out of ordinary. BUT... the fuel rail schrader valve only sprayed a small amount of fuel out when I checked it. If I'm correct it should have a nice solid stream about 40-45 psi. Hmmm. Any other quirks with these I should know about like faulty computers or a bad TPS would help! Thanks.

 

i know on mine it died because of lost fuel (sent an injector failure across all 6 cylinders) i still had power tho

what happened was that the wire that goes from the end of the fuel rail to the o2 sensor in the manifold, melted to the hot manifold and was grounding out, giving me power and would sit there and crank and crank and crank, and i have a manuel and it would not roll start at all either. it blew a small little fuse in the engine compartment as well. once the wire was repaired and the fuse was replaced it ran amazing again!

I appreciate the guidance but the poor thing is still sitting on the side of RT. 80 right now so I'll check when I get it home tonight... Buddy has a rollback but works until 6pm, free tows are awesome!
