So after geting my tranny back on and short drives around town i hop'd on the expressway and hoped for the best..What i got was a pretty loud high pitch whining noise that is happening right about 50-70mph. Also if i let of the throttle the noise completly disapears.. also it is starting to pop out of 3rd gear.. Anyone might know what might cause these things? it seems asif it has gotten louder. I have to take a long road trip this week not to long around 500 miles but still thats not a short trip. I just dont want to wiend up broken down on the side of the road ,with no way to get my xj home. I also have a small exhuast leak and it sometimes crackles and pops when deceralting..Will this cause any damage? (burnt valves? ect ect) And would having a bad exhuast leak ever cause a back fire? thanks in advance

 

i guess theres a possiblitly my tranny is not he ax15 and is the ba10\5

 

now its doing it in third horibly loud this would have nothing to do with maybe speedo cable would it?

 

look at the drivers side of the tranny.

If it has waffle ribbing and is one piece (vs bolted together top and bottom), it's an AX-15.


If the ribbing is irregular, and the two case halves are bolted together, sorry but you have a ba10/5.

ahh its the crappy one! sigh's....it whines slightly in first and second really notiacble in third but COMPLETLY silent in fourt..5th is noticable..It also appears to get louder as it gets warmer

If you have the BA15 then its probably self destroying itself. Time to look for a AX15
