you could probably get away with a 1000W inverter and a flux core welder. That way you can run a standard air compressor also.

I believe with a 120VAC 15Amp comes out to about 900W

this one is 1100W with a 2200W surge.

I am looking into utility convenience... I am interested in people's responses also.

Im lazy and bought a ReadyWelder2 and pulled a Sanden A/C pump from a 90' for my OBA. The welder case fits under the back seat when I bring it.'

I bought mine new a couple years ago for half of the price on their site.

wow 600 bucks for the basic kit?! That would buy me a flux core welder, wire, 2 optima batteries and an inverter to run it!

oops, I just looked at the receipt, it was 425$ shipped NIB for the 10000 model. so I payed just shy of 3/4 what they want for it. thats a small price to pay for the convenience to me. I dont have to worry about inverters, or lugging a big heavy machine around. The Readywelder is small and light-2 things that are important with space at a premium. I just hook up to a couple batteries and rock on.

I don't think a 1000W inverter would be good for anything more than a 90 amp welder, but thats just me. Why would you want to carry around a welder anyway?

I've seen where someone mounted a different pulley to the water pump I think. It had an additional pulley on it so that they could mount the alternator when they needed it to weld on top of the engine. The hood had to be open though, but it was removeable.
