Ya for new cars the dealer will tell you that it is with in specs . but I think if it uses more then one quart before your next oil change it is to much . if the engine doesn't have any blow by then the rings should be ok ,then it has to be valve seals or may be the guides .
I only have a measly 167K on the '00.

My 95( 318k )was losing 1qt every 3,000, between a oil adapter leak(which isn't a gusher of a leak), and rms, and valve cover, I'm sealed no leaks now. The rms really showed, but as for the other two not really. I'd check the back of the motor(valve cover), and the side with the oil filter adapter. I'm just saying, I thought losing that much oil was normal, not really. The 4.0 gets way too hot, not to eventually cook gaskets.

That last quart of oil brought the level up to flush with the top of the Safe line. Might be a little higher than after an oil change with 6 qt. left it. Anyway, will see how it goes through this over the next wile.
