Default Oil up the rockers

On my vintage sixes you pull the dist. and insert a screwdriver into a drill and insert the screwdriver in the slot in the oil pump shaft and spin away until the oil got to the rockers. How do you do that without a distributor on a 2000?

I can turn over my vintage sixes numerous ways, the easiest by grabbing the fan and turning while the transmission in neutral. How do you turn a 2000 4.0 with automatic transmission over by hand to find tdc #6 cylinder when the engine is at #1 tdc ?

the easiest way i have found would be to get a 3/4" socket and half inch drive ratchet and put it on the crank pulley bolt and turn it over that way. Your best bet would be to have all of the plugs out when you do this so it will spin better.

You could unplug the coil packs and pull the fuel pump relay and use the starter to build oil pressure.A socket on the crank pulley will turn the engine over easy. But i gotta ask are you rebuilding it or what ?

I m going to be replacing a cracked head. After assembly of my other engines I'd run the oil pump to get oil to all bearings and then up to the rockers to make sure they all were receiving oil visually.

Unplug the CPS and crank it over with the starter.

Absolutely unnecessary! Just squirt or pour oil over rockers and into lifter bores. Since you did not do a complete rebuild there is already adequate residual oil on the bearings.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind the next time. The problem went away today.
