Default Oil Pump Replacement

I have a 1996 Cherokee Classic 2wd with auto trans and 180000 miles. I am about to replace the rear main seal and pan gasket. I am also thinking about replacing the oil pump. I know oem is best, but does anybody have any input, good or bad, on aftermarket pumps and what brands would be recommended.

Thanks in advance...Merry Christmas to all

If you are dead-set on replacing the pump. Get the Melling standard volume. No need to get the HV (high volume) pump. I did in my '92 XJ and had to bash the oil pan to make it fit. Split the pan and had to braze the split too. lol.

Did NOT help my low oil pressure at all.

If I remember correctly, Cruiser54 stated here that these engines were not designed for hi volume or high pressure pumps, just stay with standard volume/pressure.

There is also an issue with the high volume oil pumps screwing with the distributor drive gear. Accelerated wear, or something to that affect.
