when you say it wont get in there.. do you mean its a tight fit? does it fall out? or it just wont go in the hole whatsoever?

i wish i could offer first hand experience on this... i have messed with similar setups though... rub some grease on that son of a gun.. and twist that thing in there applying pressure...

its a pickup tube.. so you sure as hell dont want it to have leaks.. otherwise its like sucking soda through a straw with a crack in it.. no bueno

if all else fails... possible manufacturing defect?

Take a wrench that just fits over the tube but will back-up against the rolled edge. Then very "gingerly" begin tapping the pipe into the pump. "DO NOT" sand any more metal off the dip tube, you don't want that thing working loose two weeks after you did all the work to replace it.
Make sure it is in the position, close anyway, that it needs to be when installing. After install on the motor take a piece of chewing gum and place it in the bottom of the oil pan, make sure it is about 1/2 high. rough fit the pan , remove and look to see that the pick-up is about 1/4in(no less than but no more than 1/2in) off the bottom of the pan, rap with hammer to move if need be.
Whatever you do do not puncture or crack the dip-tube, or you will be buying a new one.

Got my roomate to give me a hand and we started by keeping the bracket in place by placing a 6" 1/4" extension thru where the pick up meets posts against the pump and then wrapped the tube with two shop rags and hit it a few times with a hammer and it's in there nice and snug...made a small debt but nothing serious

Right on....it has to be tight to be a press fit and stay in place. I would be concerned with how much you sanded it. I use the wrench method along with blue lok-tite. I put the old pump in a vise and mark location points and then vise up the new pump and duplicate.
