Been reading these threads lately.
Most of it is here:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/3-...ng-oil-255577/
I would never suggest that thread to anyone regarding proper engine building.

If you want to learn beforehand, peruse the FSM to see how easy these engines are compared to Detroit Iron. too many myths are applied to the 4.0 that they don't deserve.

So all that stuff in Post #4 is unnecessary?

Easy peasy huh. Thanks for that.
Been thinking about building an engine, well really my friend will handle most of the heavy lifting but I will be involved, and been trying to educate myself about pre-oiling an engine and
all the preload stuff with rocker/lifters/whatnot I have been reading about lately.
where is the crank positioning sensor . Got a picture?

Picture no. The connector for it in my '00 is on driver's side near some shifter linkage.
The CPS is on top of the bellhousing more accessible from the same side.

What do you mean by " turn it over a few times"

So much for Dave nominating my post for a sticky then. But I fail to see how these lifters aren't affected by preload. CCKen seemed to think so also.

I personally cannot see any reason to fit a HV pump in motors that routinely last +200k miles

My question would arise at what point you would not re-use the old one, but obtain a new pump (in a rebuild or major overhaul).

I presume an OEM oil pump is no longer available?

I don't know if the OEMs are available or not. Aftermarket, with POSSIBLY the exception being Melling, are likely off shore junk made of inferior materials and sketchy engineering.
