K so I've been bringin this bad-a#$-moe-foe back to life, but my oil presure guage is reading 20psi
& it should be around 40psi. I was thinking oil leak, so i shut her down & the guage stays at 20psi???
1st- idk if its the gauge or the sensor???
2nd- idk where the oil presure sensor is on the motor???
Any info would be great!!!
Thanks

Oil pressure sensor is mounted on the left side of the motor where your oil filter is,it comes off the same housing that your filter is on. I would move the wire around going to it and make sure it is not broke, more than likely it is the sensor, they do not cost much,I had mine quit working the other day,I also have a mechanical guage on the colum which was good.
Would a problem with the oil sensor cause the oil gauge to not read at all? A friend of mine has an XJ he might be selling me that runs perfect, but the gauge on the dash for the oil pressure doesn't work.

Yes the sensor will cause the guage to not work at all. But what I mean is mine when it quit,it pegged the guage to the right, mine was a wire problem,if it was just the sensor it would proabably set at zero. put in a new sensor,I do not think they are to much.
That's what this one is doing also. Stuck as far right as it will go. I'll switch out the sensor and check the wires.

Thats what it looks like . Do not put teflon tape on it because it needs to ground to the engine in order to work properly. ill get a pic of mine in my 87 for you in a few minutes

Hmm.From further reading, I may have a short or something. With the picture you all posted and the description, I found it pretty easy. I tried a few things with the wire and it didn't help much. Problem is.. if what I read was right, when I disconnected the wire from the sensor and started the car, it should have pegged to the left. It just pegged to the right again. Sounds like it may be a problem with the wire, but i'll replace the sensor just in case anyway since they're cheap.

Stupid question. My XJ is a 91 Laredo. The dash has an oil gauge, but it also has warning lights on the far left hand side of the dash. When looking at these sending units, some say they're for the light, and some say they're for the gauge. Since mine has both lights and gauge...what do I do?
