Default oil pressure sending unit question

I found my oil guage reading very very low usually its too high, checked the unit and it looks like it was peeled in half, ripped right through what looks like a plastic oring or gasket. I plan on getting another one but I would like to know how soon I need it. Im not throwing a CEL and I know my oils good, but does it contribute/interact with any functions in the ecu? If I need it asap ill hit up the shop but if not ill get it offline for twenty dollars less

just go to autozone or where ever if you need a new one but oil pressure is nothing to mess around with. if your getting crazy readings id buy a new one. i mean thats the internals of your engine we're talking about here.

It wont hurt you to keep driving on it, just dont drive it like you stole it. Unless you had issues with oil pressure in the past, you will be fine. Just get it replaced in the next week or two. However, the guy above stated to buy it at autozone. Autozone does not stock the actual sending unit, they stock a very similar part for a dummy light on the other side of your engine. It fits fine, but will peg your gauge.

Im not getting any readings the piece is split in half. My oil pressure should stay at what it was since the pump is driven by the serp belt I was just wondering if that sensor interacts with anything other than the dash guage. And im getting one very soon im just fishing for answers on how soon.

FYI: I recently removed a broken oil pressure sending unit and drove to dealer to replace it......left a trail of oil in my wake. Thankfully, I noticed the puddle of oil under the Cherokee shortly after I left dealership, so I did not lose too much oil.

Moral: Do not drive without the oil pressure sending unit in place, or plug the orifice if you do.

It broke after the flim button that reads the pressure so its plugged shut no oil leaking. It wouldn't be driveable if it was spewing oil out of the reading spout at 40 psi lol

Update:
Swapped out my oil yesterday went from my 5w to a 10w oil, the new oil broke through the seal in the sending unit and I managed to loose most of my fresh oil in a few miles. Luckly the part will be arriving today, no damage was done but I wasted 5qs of oil, good thing I don't do synthetic.

Moral of story, I guess listen to the poster that told me to fix it asap lol.
