Your oil pressure looks good I am sure your using 5w or 10w at cold start it will be a high pressure because the oil is at its thickest.

After warm up your pressure goes down because the oil is thinner.
You want 10 psi for every 1k rpm's. 13 psi is normal.

Using thinner oil is not just recommened for cold but can be used anytime.
I am about to do an oil and filter change on mine with Oreilly brand (Mobile 1) full synthetic 0w-20.

90% of engine wear is at cold start until normal operating temp is achieved.

Think of the engine like your body, would you rather have high blood pressure or normal blood pressure all the time?

I also noticed alot of jeepers asking about a ticking sound and most are at start up.
This only because the oil they are using is too thick so IMO thinner oil is better.

As long as you have no oil leaks!

Or the ticking sound at start up is due to using inferior oi filters that don't meet minimum spec and drain dry when the engine is turned off, only to starve that same engine for oil on next start up.

I picked up K&N HP-2007 oil filter.

Hey guys! I just bought a '96 Cherokee. Manual windows and doors but AT. I also get a blinking then a steady red on the oil light. Yesterday, I changed the oil and transmission pan gaskets (which took 12 hours). I used 10w-40 high mileage oil for the thing. I know I have to change the valve cover gasket but should that matter? Is there a step-by-step write up on the oil sensor thing? Will this engine blow up on me if I don't get it fixed? Thanks for the help guys, very informative!

If the oil pressure is truly low, don't expect much life out of your new purchase. This needs to be addressed quickly. Oil pressure needs to be verified wit a mechanical gauge. Easily done by removing the oil pressure sender right above the oil filter.

Okay....so once I've removed that wire I can do what now? Sorry this stuff is a bit new to me....is there a write up on this? Also what does this sender do? What is the significance of this sender? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just trying to find out everything I can about my new vehicle. Thanks so much for your help!

Unscrew it. It sends the electrical signal to your oil light or gauge.

Hemet - you don't get freezing temps.

I use 20-40w Valvoline - real, not "pretend" oil in all my Jeeps (5 at the moment,) and all my vehicles (not sure - 10?) (Insurance is a real killer!) Yucca Valley, CA.

Fram has way too many issues - cold start, bursting, falling apart inside etc. You get what you pay for.

I like WIX filters - never had or even heard of a complaint with them.

Hello again! I haven't had time to change the oil sending unit. But I was wondering if this was a common thing?

Bad oil senders are very common. Not just in jeeps either. Just got finished changing one on a chevy smallblock that puked about a pint of oil on my garage floor.

Sad thing is, they're no cheaper than a good quality filter. Just way more risky to use.

Hello there! Alright, so for another question / help issue. I changed the oil pressure sensor by the filter. I don't believe that fixed the issue. The oil light is now a light glowing red/pink. I don't know how else to describe it. I checked the oil, good. I just changed the oil twice (b/c of the oil pan gasket), good. i know the valve cover gasket must be changed b/c the Aamco mechanic said it's leaking from the back of that. Do you think that will fix the issue? Also, I heard the oil cap can go bad. Which doesn't surprise me b/c this douchebag that had the jeep before me didn't take care of anything and I'm having to do 10 years of maintenance myself...sorry just a little bitter about it. If it's not any of these things, then I also hear that the oil pump can be screwed or the screen in the oil pan could be clogged. Any other ideas before I start ripping things out again. All of you guys' advice is much appreciated! Thank you again for the advice!

Low oil pressure will not be caused by a valve cover leak or oil cap. Why don't you verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge?
What brand of oil filter is on it?
