Default Oil Pressure Guage Pegged???

Ok this morning I was driving to work and noticed my oil pressure guage was pegged all the way to 80. Nothing different this morning, temp was about 28 degrees, I am running Full Synthetic 5W30 and it doesn't seem to be running any different. I did a search but couldn't find anything about it. Any ideas? Oil has only been in there about 1k miles. Thanks in advance for any advise. Sorry it is a 2001 XJ Sport with a 4.0L A/T.

Your oil sending unit is shot. Should be able to pick one up at any auto parts store.

x2, pretty common and easy fix, be able to do it in the parking lot of the parts store.

have you done an oil change recently? I had mine changed a year ago and they broke the wires at the base of the connector plug for the sender. I just installed a new sensor and noticed the broken wires.

my gauge fluctates a good bit and normally runs between 40-80. I have no problems in mine. Id like to get a new connector with some wire to fix it but JY's dont list it and Im a good drive away from a U-pull it place.

I buy my oil pressure sending units directly from Jeep for best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge. Worth the extra $20.

Awesome, thanks all. Easy enough fix. Will get to that one over the weekend also when I change front and rear Diff fluid and flush the coolant again.
