Default Oil pressure gauge reading when igntion is on, engine off

Hey guys,

I was changing oil and I tried pulling the plug off of the sender but it came off with the cover for the sending unit to get better access to the oil filter. I put it back in and at first the oil pressure gauge went all the way to the right, way past scale, when I turned on the ignition. After fiddling with it for a bit I got it to "work".
Now with ignition on, engine off, oil pressure gauge reads 10 PSI.
Is this normal or do I need new sender unit? I don't remember how it used to be.

It sounds like you are going to need a new sending unit.

So oil pressure on the gauge with ignition on, engine off is at 0 in your Jeeps?

Should I even bother with aftermarket one from Napa or Autozone or get one from a dealer?

Dealer, NAPA, Autozone. In that order. Honestly I'd skip the last option. Too many bad parts over the last few years.

I replaced the oil pressure sending unit with a Premium one from Napa (premium means it is not the cheapest at Napa) and the gauge shows 10 PSI oil pressure with engine off and ignition on.
And it didn't work right away. I installed it, turned ignition on and gauge went way past scale, like it does when its harness is disconnected, wiggled the wires and it works.
I have to chase that wire down. In the engine bay I had broken parking lights and headlights wires already at wire harnesses that I jumped over the harness and soldered so maybe this one is barely hanging on.
Waste of $35
