Default oil pressure drops under load

I have a 92 4.0L cherokee. the oil pressure runs 30-40 at idle but when i accelerate it drops to just about 0. When it get around 2k rpm and up it begin s to have a small clatter in the engine when the oil pressure hits 0. The engine has 167k on it and it solid. With the jeep in park i can rev it with consistent oil pressure between 30-40 with no chatter. So it seems as the issue is only when it is under a load. i checked the oil and it is at a good level. im thinking it may be the oil pump? any ideas? thanks

Verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Remove the oil pressure sender located at the oil filter adapter, screw in mechanical gauge in there.

Mine did this but didn't make any noise. That kinda scares me. I would walk to the parts store and rent a mechanical gauge. Then test it before you drive it much. Mine was just a loose wire. I figured this out after i replaced the sending unit.

This.

Verify your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. They can be rented from many big box parts stores.

GOOD DATA = GOOD DECISIONS
