So my oil pressure gauge wasnt working so i put a aftermarket one in. It says i have about 40-45 pounds when idleing and it got up to about 80 when driving. Is this high? My dad said it should olny be about 30-35 when idleing. BTW the motor has 215K on it (well thats what it says on the speedo). Maybe the motor is rebuilt or its a different motor?

that sounds high to me it shouldn't get above about 50 or 60 max. Check your oil level and don't over fill it.

Mine typically goes about 30 while idleing, and goes up to 50 while driving.

Those pressures are good for a cold engine. If it is that high when it reaches operating temp then you are just plain lucky. Mine went to 5 lbs at idle before the rebuild. 211,000 miles

What could happen? I started it and drove it before with this oil pressure and no seals blew. How would i be able to drain just a little oil? Loosen up the drain plug just a little and let it drip?

Remove the oil filter. Alot less messy and easier to get just a little out at a time. Is it overfull?

Well i checked the oil before i started it and it wasnt overfull,i think it wasnt warmed up all the way so thats why maybe it was so high, tommrow ill warm it up and see what happens, but is it possible for a 215k motor to have that good of oil pressure, things like this make me think its been rebuilt or replaced

Good point, but on my block it says PP. Looks like it was written on with a white sharpie or stamped on there with some white ink.
