Default Oil pan + rust.

Have the stock oil pans been known to rust through? Was under the XJ checking this years winter damage, when I noticed a large brown rust patch on the side of the pan. I didn't poke it or anything, but it does look menacing.

The guy that does my inspections keeps noting there's not a spot of rot on my rig. Somewhat surprised it being a New England vehicle for the past 15 years. It just keeps passing inspection like a champ. I don't think he saw this though. I don't have any pics, but this is just a question in general. These oil pans rust out easily?

The oil pans rotting out is not a common problem on xj's to my knowledge

I have some rust on my oil pan, but it had the stupid @#&$*! splash mat pinning salty slush to it for 14 years. Just surface rust though. I don't really hear of anyone having this problem either.

I'm assuming it's a steel with enamel paint. Wondering if anyone knows what the gauge is...

I thought the same thing about my rear diff cover. There's a huge rust chunk on my D35 diff cover. I thought it wouldn't make it through. When changing the fluid, I saw a brown ting in the metal on the opposite side. It was still shiny and polished looking, but the rust stained the metal on the other side. Thinking I may need a new diff cover now. Would just feel silly pimping out a D35 though.
