I had the same problem with my '88 XJ. It turned out to be caused by a blocked CCV orifice (In your case I think PCV valve) The rear hose on your valve cover leading to the intake manifold gets plugged and the front hose on your valve cover allows oil to be sucked into your air box and into your throttle body. You need to clear the CCV or PCV to correct!

That might be a short term fix however you still have to fix the PCV or CCV problem if in fact that is what is causing this. It is not too difficult. The hose coming off the rear of your valve cover (Close to the firewall) may be the problem. Using a vacuum pump apply vacuum to the end that goes to the intake manifold, there should be no vacuum. If there is you must clear the CCV orifice or change the PCV valve at the valve cover end as letting it stay blocked will cause other problems. Get a Haynes manual or go on line for the details. Good Luck...
