oil light turing on
On my 1989 jeep comanche 4.0 4x4 the indicators for the battery, oil, radiator fluid are all just light that turn red when something is wrong. i had a bad oil leak which lead to being the rear main seal. Before that if i drove for more then 15 minutes the red light would kick on if i was sitten there in no gear. but when i started to go it would kick back off. I replaced the rear main seal and no longer have a leak but the light still comes on. The indicator light for oil. It is full and clean so I dont know the problem. Please help thanks.

no replace the oil pressure sending unit, it's right by the oil filter. If the light continues to come on after you replace the sending unit, then you'll need to install a gage to see what your actual oil pressure is. It could be a major problem, you shouldn't drive it until you know for sure. Good luck

I would go to Oreillys/auto zone and get the cheapest manual oil pressure gauge and hook it up to see what your actual pressure is. If your pressure is good when idling, driving, pulling hills then your pressure sending unit is bad. If you have low pressure when idling or driving then I would recommend putting a new oil pump and new rod and main bearings while I had the pan off. Then you should have great oil pressure again. If you let it go too long then your upper end will be starved for oil and will just get progressively worse! Had this happen to me first hand!
Hope this helps

The kit has three or four different brass compression fittings. You just have to find the one that is the same thread and diameter as your oil pressure sending unit. Then on the package it will tell you how to adapt that to the PVC line that goes to your gauge. Just unscrew your pressure sensor and put that in place and route your line in a safe place where it won't be melted or broken then hook up the gauge! It is pretty simple. Just double check your connections when your finished and make sure your not leaking oil! Then you'll have a positive reading on your oil pressure

If you oil pressure really is low enough to turn the light on, then your engine is worn to the point where it needs to be pulled and completely rebuilt.
Just potshotting a few bearings from underneath is not going to erase all the wear from all those hundreds of thousands of miles.
