Default Oil Leaks.....Help me.

Ok, so i've been fighting and oil leak ever since I bought my 89 Cherokee. I cant seem to get it stopped. Its spraying all over the engine black on the passenger side of the vehicle. I have already replaced the oil filter adapter orings, that seemed to cut down on the leak a bit. Then about 2 weeks later it was spraying just as bad as before, so I put a brand new oil filter adapter on, and a new oil sending unit and valve cover gasket. But it still seems to be leaking. I've ran out of ideas of what to do, any help from you guys would be great!

Thanks,
Stu

Its not your PCV valve. when you say its spraying, do you mean that its literally spraying while the engine is running?

Well, I cant literally see it spraying, no. But, after driving it, when I open the hood, it appears like it has "sprayed" everywhere. There is oil on top of the motor, all over the drivers side of the block, on the plug wires, exhaust, etc. Like I said in the orginal post, I replaced the oil filter adapter orings, then the actual adapter itself, oil filter, oil sending unit, and valve cover gasket, but still have the problem. And now my starter if filling up with oil, so I am having to take it off and clean it out every so often. Do you guys think that it is the rear main? Or have any ideas of what else it could be?

Have you tried popping the hood while the Jeep is running and warmed up to see where the leak is coming from? that doesn't sound like a rear main seal, it sounds like either oil filter related or your valve cover and its getting on the belt with the engine running and being slung all over everything

Yeah, i've tried doing that. I have stood there holding the throttle open, and I can't see anything that appears to be leaking. But sometimes I can drive 100 feet down the road and stop, and oil is everywhere. And a few times, i've driven it all day, and hardly any leaks. It's getting to the point where I just can't depend on it. I have tried to figure this out from the day i've bought it, and it's driving me crazy......

Oil spraying only when driving, no leaks when just running. Are you sure its engine oil leaking? Could it possibly be the front pinion seal leaking and the driveshaft spraying it everywhere? Can't think of where the diff sits in comparison to the engine bay...

If you really care; here's my suggestion. take the hood off and drive it down the road until you see it start spraying oil and where from.

Driveshaft doesn't rotate fast enough to sling oil everywhere, esspecially not like he's describing. the differential sits right underneath the throttle body...about 20" down.

Haha, yeah, that's what i've been thinking about doing actually. But is there any explanation to why it would leak when driving, and not while holding the throttle open? I just can't figure out why it would be doing this.

I'm not really sure, unless its your valve cover thats leaking and the oil sloshing around in there while you're driving is causing it to leak out

yeah, I thought about that too, just now got done pulling the valve cover off checking it out, and sealing it back on. It didn't appear to have been leaking anywhere when I took it off.
