Oil Leak (uncommon for jeeps right? ;)
Hey guys im leaking oil from god knows where but im thinking its my oil pan gasket.. judging by the amount of oil surronding it, but after looking around a bit ive found it could be many other things like the rear main seal? Or even the valve cover. Im Just trying to narrow it down, ill post pics up where its leaking and see what you guys think. Also does anyone know how to remove the oil pan? There seem to be alot of things in the way.. I hear its easier if your jeep is lifted, mine is lifted 3 inches. Im changing my oil soon and thought itd be a good idea to fix the leak while the oil is all drained out.

Anyone? My valve cover bolts were very loose so i think that might have caused it?? I stripped a bolt in the process so ill have to remove the valve cover and replace the gasket anyways. Sweet.

Here's what YOU do.
I'd be looking up ABOVE first, and VERIFYING the source of the oil leak YOURSELF.
Everybody, who doesn't own or have to pay for or perform your vehicle repairs, loves to poke their noggin UNDER the Jeep and come out bearing the false bad news that your RMS is leaking.
Many mechanics, friends, and good old Uncle Bob seem to enjoy telling you it’s the rear main seal. Has a catastrophic ring to it, doesn’t it?
A simple leak at the back of the valve cover or other source could produce the same symptoms. You don’t need to be a mechanic to figure this out. If you have good eyesight and a dim flashlight, you’re good to go on your own. Don't jump on the RMS/oil pan gasket bandwagon right off the bat.
Almost any oil leak on your 4.0 is gonna drip from the RMS area for two simple reasons.
First off, the engine sits nose-up and any oil will run back to the RMS area. Secondly, the RMS area is also the lowest point on the engine. Simple physics and the old plumber's adage apply here. "$hit flows downhill".
Valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit, oil filter adapter seals and distributor gasket, in that order, have to be eliminated as possibilities first.

And BTW, this douchebag has offered you the most comprehensive, accurate, and easy to follow advice you could ask for. Even wrote a special write-up to address this issue for many others so it was at my fingertips to share with others. Perhaps parts of it are offensive to those who are over-sensitive, but it gives the OWNER of the Jeep, who is their with it, the tools they need for a proper diagnosis. Deal with it..

Hate to be the noob interrupting the peeing contest but.......
All the gaskets/seals that Cruiser mentioned can be purchased for less than 50 bucks and be installed with minimal labor. Heck just replace them all, and if you still have an oil leak then start looking into the more costly labor intensive repairs such as R.M.S and oil pan gasket
