Default oil leak at rear cross member?

Ya ok weird question, I think its oil? I just completed a 4x4 swap and stroked my 4.0 to 4.5. I have like two or three test drives the rest has been 30min. idle runs in my garage checking for leaks and junk. I have zero oil leaks at the engine and all the way down the trans. I just have it coming off the trans. mount that bolts to the cross member. It drips right of the edge where the stock exhaust hanger slips in at. It looks to be clear like oil w.t.f. I feel like a total idiot. I guess the valve cover? Is it possible that its still running down off the trans tunnel. Its been like a month of sitting. P.s. the old motor leaked everywhere.

if the back of the valve cover was leaking do you think it would come down on the sides of the trans. too?

It could come down the sides of the trans if you drove it while it was leaking. Also I had oil all over my crossmember when my RMS was leaking, I know you just stroked it and hopefully you put a new RMS in there, but you never know.

ya, I put in new everything. It make me crazy because thats where the old set up leaked too, plus at the oil filter adapter and rear main. I would put a piece of cardboard down and it was like tic tack toe. I guess I need to focus on what type of fluid it is. Its such a small leak but its still a leak. I can't stand leaks, it gives me anxiety. Is it still possible that its the driveshaft tunnel run down?

Drive shaft tunnel run down? Not familiar with that term.

Put a piece of cardboard under it like you did before and see what kind of fluid it is first, like you said. The post up what you find out.

Sorry, Like the old set up leaked everywhere like a quart a week @ 70mi. or less. I should have power washed the underside when the thing had no power train. I was hoping it was the run down of old fluids all over the drive shaft tunnel (floor of car where trans. and drive shaft are) I'm guessing its not going to be that easy. To me its clear/ brown not red like my trans fluid. This makes me crazy!

Oh I see. Can you power wash the tunnel now? Then see if there is a real leak or if its run-down.

Do you think it would travel all the way down the back of the trans. ? It may cause if I'm not mistaken the trans. has molded in strips on the top of it. May be confused with the e-250 Ive been workin on for a friend.

my suggestion is to clean the under side real good, put some die into your oil run it for a while then check with the black light. if you dont see it then i would move to putting die in the tranny and then driving it around and then hitting it with the light: all you have to do once you find the leak is follow the green glow back to the source haha

well what I thought was oil was atf, I drove it around today for a hour then parked it in the garage no leak this time? I did notice a head of atf starting to form on the mount again....... I added a 1/2 a container of that lucas stuff and drove it again for 20 mi. no leaks now, maybe in the morning though. I found the leak in between the plate that mounts to the transfer case and the back of the trans. body. What a hell of a day though I went backwards with improvements, tried to charge my a/c (empty) I put half of one can it and the condenser started spraying this green slime everywhere (ouch) I noticed today when driving at low speed and turning, the wheel pulses through my hands? Time to post another question. Thanks everyone-great idea with the dye.
