right now the more info the better for me..... i just didnt plan on buying floor jack and jack stands right now, i was hoping to wait till at least may... btw anybody have suggestions on which ones to get that dont cost a fortune??

now realizing that i have an exhaust leak somewhere either being the headers or the first joint on the exhaust i think thats my main priority to get fixed...
it sounds really loud and then after about 5mins its not loud anymore so i'm not exactly sure what it is thanks again.

Its either your collector or the manifold is cracked most cherokees manifolds crack and when they heat up it quiest down as for the oil pan unhook the shocks and the sway bars and is you still cant get the axle low enought to get it out put two bottle jacks on the axle and push it down my friends and i have done this a few times a back yard mechanic trick

Sounds like your manifold is cracked . Mine sounded like you discribed and it was cracked between the end of the pipe right before the collector. If you dont have mechanical skills I would suggest not performing this task.

Harbor freight has pretty good prices on these items if not you might be able to go to a local autozone or kragen . They usually have them on special 2 and 1/2 ton jack with two jack stands usually around 99 bucks.

thanks for the info, i'll look at the stores and see what they have. so say it is the manifold? i'm guessing thats probably not something that i can do myself (remember this is my first car and i'm just learning how to do some work myself)... would anybody have a guess on what it would cost me to take it somewhere?

thanks to everyone for the help

Took me about 5 hours but i went to my buddies for the welding and part store. 80 per hour i am guessing 400.00 in labor . If you decide to buy a new header ive seen them for 150.00 on up to 500.00

yeah looking at it last night i realized theres no way i can do that work myself so i'm taking it to our mechanic hopefully monday or sometime this week and going to see what he says and how much he thinks..... thanksfully my brother is out of town and i can drive his car for now..

i was looking at exhaust manifolds online and it seems like there are a few different designs?? on them or at least they look different. is there a specific one i should be looking for??

thank you all very much for the help!!!

It just depends on what you want and how much u want to spend. In my opinion a stock one will work just fine . It is a header like design , True headers will have all equal length tubes most of the time and cost substantially more. Just get what you need for it to be a reliable rig, The oil pan problem is more of a must imo.. get a new pan or one from a pick-n-pull . Also while your there try to find a cherokee and pull it apart to learn how to take the intake and exhaust off. You wont have to worrie about putting it back together, and you dont have to worrie about damaging it because its not your truck its a scrapper.

awesome got it back and apparently the exhaust leak was just a gasket in one of the joints on the exhaust..... but he also patched the oil leak and now just sitting overnight its got a 8-10 oil spot on the garage floor.... before it was maybe an inch or two........... i have no idea what to do now

well i just about gave the side of my oil pan a new wall with jb weld..... hopefully that seals everything up pretty good.

does anybody else have problems with the side of their oil pan by the exhaust getting rust spots? just that side? or know of a way to prevent it if i get a new oil pan put on? maybe like something to protect it or would it be possible to move the exhaust pipe ??

I havnt had that problem with my oil pan but I have seen the problem before an I would say a simple heat sheild should take care of it.
