Default Oil leak after seafoam treatment

Hello guys,

Last week I put a whole container of sea foam in my gas tank and yesterday I started to have a pretty decent sized puddle of oil after my jeep sat all night. Any ideas on why this is suddenly happening? Is it just a coincidence?

Anyways, I'm not very mechanically inclined but I would like to fix this problem myself. My jeep is a 92 xj briarwood.

Thanks!

You put it in your gas tank not the crankcase?

I would not think that putting sea foam through anything but the crankcase would cause an oil leak. probably coincidence.

Only in the gas tank. I figured its a coincidence but I figured I'd check. Is an oil leak generally an easy fix?

There's not many places these i6's can leak from. First step is to find the leak. Start at the top and work your way down. Check the valve cover, oil filter, oil cap etc. If you can't tell where the leak is coming from clean the oil off and go for a drive.

If it's not at the top, move onto the drain plug, oil pan gasket, and rear main seal. The O rings on the oil filter adapter like to go out and leak, the way it drips down can make it look like the rear main.

First find the leak..
**Valve cover leak is fairly 'easy' to fix, usually a nice new rubber gasket.
**Oil filter adapter might be easy, getting it off to replace the o-rings likely being the most difficult step.
**Rear main seal would be the most involved fix.. easy for me, maybe not easy for you. Getting the oil pan off can be difficult due to clearance issues, but once it's off, the seal itself is easy. These are the three most likely places to find a leak, but not the only ones. The oil pan gasket could be leaking, but if it is, then you should replace the rear main seal while replacing that. So.. first..

I just went through all of this a few months ago, ended up being the last one - oil pan gasket. Totally ripped/blown out in the back, very odd.

But now I am fully sealed up - Valve Cover, Filter Adapter, Oil Pan, and Rear Main.
