My jeep has always had a little oil leak from the oil filter adaptor but i rev it up to 4000 rpms a couple times and i look under the jeep and i have a big spot of oil and i cant find out where it came from. Anyone know what it could be.

 

I'm confused? You already know where it's coming from? Buy some new seals and fix it haha

 

start at the top and work your way down. Replace the valve cover gasket, and see if it goes away ( < an hour of work and $20, probably needs to be done anyways). you already know to replace the adaptor orings, that like 20 minutes and a couple of bucks. so go ahead and just take care of it. and then go from there.

I've had a similar issue, with my XJ, big oil leak after higher speed driving, and I've so far done what I just said, valve cover and o-rings on the oil adaptor, as well as the auto trans gasket, and it less, so I'm going to tackle the rear main and the oil pan gasket. and hopefully get rid of it as close to 100% as possible. that would make me very happy.

 

Replace the oil filter adapter o-rings. You already know it is leaking so take care of it. That could be your leak right there. Like said, when it comes to leaks, start from the top and work your way down. If the engine is covered in dirt and oil, clean it. That should make it easier to find your leak, or any leaks, in the future.

Any one or a combination of can be the source of your leak. I found both the oil filter adapter and the valve cover gasket leaking on my 97.
